Gather Your Supplies
To begin with, you’ll need the correct tools. Grab some pastels – those chalky stick crayons that come in an array of colors. You will also need some high quality paper. Preferably something with texture. Do not forget to use cotton pads, tissue paper, or masking tape as a way to hold your paper.
Sketch It Out
Draw a simple sketch on the paper. Avoid using harsh lines that will show through the delicate pastels. What brings you peace? A serene landscape, a blossoming flower or perhaps abstract shapes.
The base colors
It’s time to have some fun! Start by applying your base colours lightly. Avoid pressing too hard. Instead, let the pastels slide over the paper. Add more layers as needed.
Blend like There’s No Tomorrow
Start by blending the colors using cotton pads and tissues. Pastel Nagomi Art is at its best here. It is important that everything looks soft and dreamy. Like you are looking through frosted-glass.
Add Details
Add details once you’re satisfied with the blended background. For this step, use sharper pastel edges. Add some crisp lines or defined petals to that flower.
Seal the Deal
Fixative sprays can help to fix your pastels. They are messy, and they tend to smudge. Do not drown it. Just lightly mist the can.
